Dr. Steven N. Kalkanis named CEO of Henry Ford Medical Group

Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System has tapped Steven N. Kalkanis, MD, as CEO of the medical group, effective Jan. 1.

As CEO, Dr. Kalkanis will lead the Henry Ford Medical Group, a group practice with 1,900 physicians and researchers in more than 40 specialties. 

He will also serve as Henry Ford Health System's senior vice president and chief academic officer, a role that will focus on research and medical education programs, according to the health system. Additionally, he will play a key role in efforts to advance the health system's population health and accountable care strategies.

"Not only is Steve an accomplished and recognized neurosurgeon, he is a transformational leader who can build on the strong history and tradition of the Henry Ford Medical Group. We are excited to partner with him to drive the innovative approaches for which this medical group has long been known."

Dr. Kalkanis is chair of Henry Ford Health System's neurosurgery department, medical director of the Henry Ford Cancer Institute and president of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

He will succeed William A. Conway, MD, who is leaving his role after more than 40 years with the health system.
