Dr. David Bartlett named chair of Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute

David L. Bartlett, MD, will serve as chair of the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute in Pittsburgh, effective in spring 2020.

Dr. Bartlett is currently vice chair for surgical oncology and gastrointestinal surgery services and director of the David C. Koch Regional Perfusion Cancer Therapy Center at UPMC. He is also chief of surgery for UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh and the Bernard Fisher professor of surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

In 2019, he was named president of the Society of Surgical Oncology.

As chair, Dr. Bartlett will oversee a team of more than 200 physicians and 500 advanced practice oncology professionals. He will oversee the institute's growth strategy, which includes the opening of an $80 million academic center on the Allegheny General Hospital campus in Pittsburgh. And he will be responsible for the institute's partnership with the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

He succeeds David Parda, MD, who will become president of Allegheny General Hospital Jan. 1.
