David McQuaid set to lead OSU Health System: 6 things to know

David McQuaid is slated to become CEO of The Ohio State University Health System, and COO of Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center, both in Columbus.

Here are six things to know about Mr. McQuaid.

1. He has more than 25 years of experience leading academic health systems, with a strong background in operations and finance, clinical program growth, strategic planning and continuous process improvement.

2. His most recent roles were executive vice president for clinical affairs, president and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia.

3. During Mr. McQuaid's tenure at Jefferson, the system achieved Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and earned the University HealthSystem Consortium's "Rising Star Award," among other accomplishments, according to a news release.

4. As CEO of Ohio State health system, he will be responsible for overseeing six hospitals — soon to be seven — and the Ohio State primary care and ambulatory networks. As COO of the Wexner Medical Center, his focus will be on business development, clinical operations and fiscal accountability.

5. Mr. McQuaid's appointment is expected to take effect Feb. 1, pending approval by The Ohio State University Board of Trustees.

6. He succeeds Peter Geier, who served in a similar role at Ohio State for nearly 15 years.
