Cooper University Health Care appoints co-CEOs

Camden, N.J.-based Cooper University Health Care CEO and Executive Chairman Adrienne Kirby is retiring, effective June 1, according to a Courier Post report. The organization has named two chief executives to succeed Ms. Kirby.

Anthony J. Mazzarelli, MD, and Kevin O'Dowd, who currently serve as Cooper's co-presidents, will take over as co-CEOs following Ms. Kirby's retirement. Dr. Mazzarelli and Mr. O'Dowd have served as co-presidents since March 2018.

Dr. Mazzarelli has worked at Cooper since 1999, when he joined as an emergency room physician. Since then, he has served in several leadership role, including as chief physician executive.

Mr. O'Dowd joined Cooper in December 2014 as senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer. He was previously chief of staff to former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Ms. Kirby assumed the top post at the health system in 2013, after serving as senior vice president and COO for a year. George E. Norcross III, the health system's board chairman, told Courier Post that Cooper's revenues rose from 823 million in 2012 to $1.3 billion-plus in 2018.
