Community Health Systems CFO Thomas Aaron to retire: 7 things to know

Thomas J. Aaron, executive vice president and CFO of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, is retiring

Seven things to know:

1. Mr. Aaron has been CFO since May 2017.

2. He will retire from his executive management role Dec. 31, when he is expected to begin serving as a strategic consultant to CHS on margin improvement programs, the company said

3. Before becoming CFO, Mr. Aaron was senior vice president of finance at CHS.  

4. Kevin Hammons, current CHS senior vice president, assistant CFO and treasurer, will succeed Mr. Aaron.

5. Mr. Hammons became assistant CFO in 2017 and treasurer the following year. He was also chief accounting officer for CHS.

6. CHS Chairman and CEO Wayne T. Smith said Mr. Hammons "is uniquely and highly qualified to assume the role of chief financial officer based on his more than 20 years of financial leadership roles and responsibilities at Community Health Systems."

7. The CEO also credited Mr. Aaron with helping to advance the company's strategic initiatives, including refinancing debt and  playing a key role in CHS' divestiture program. The company has been on a divestiture spree to pay down its debt and as of Oct. 1 had divested 12 hospitals this year.
