Cleveland Clinic to restructure leadership in Florida

Emily Rappleye -

With two hospital acquisitions pending, Cleveland Clinic Florida plans to create a new regional leadership structure in the Sunshine State.

Pending regulatory review and approval of the system's plans to take over Stuart-based Martin Health System and Vero Beach-based Indian River Medical Center, the new Florida region will include both new hospital members plus the Cleveland Clinic Florida medical center in Weston, the Coral Springs Family Health Center, and facilities in Palm Beach Gardens, Parkland, West Palm Beach and Wellington.

So far, the new structure requires no outside hires — the Clinic plans to reshuffle executives within the system. The Clinic plans to announce more leadership positions as the regional structure develops.

If both acquisitions are approved in January, Cleveland Clinic Florida leadership will be restructured next year as follows:

  • Current president and CEO of the Cleveland Clinic Florida medical center in Weston, Wael Barsoum, MD, will become president and CEO of the entire Cleveland Clinic Florida region.
  • The current chief of staff in Weston, Rodolfo Blandon, MD, will fill the role Dr. Barsoum vacated and become president of the Weston medical center.
  • The chairman of the Clinic's Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute, Joseph Iannotti, MD, PhD, will assume the role of chief of staff for Cleveland Clinic's Florida region.
  • The chairman of Cleveland Clinic's Medicine Institute, Gregory Rosencrance, MD, will relocate to Florida to run Indian River Medical Center as president.
  • Indian River's interim president and CEO, Karen Davis, will return to consulting firm Alvarez and Marsal, where she is senior director.
  • Martin Health System will retain its current president, Robert Lord Jr.
