CHS hospital names new CEO 5 months after leadership exodus

Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in Florida named Sharon Hayes, BSN, RN, CEO five months after the hospital's former chief and its former CFO unexpectedly resigned, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Ms. Hayes replaces interim CEO Joe Mullany, regional president of Bayfront Health, who stepped in after former CEO John McLain abruptly resigned in February. Bayfront Health St. Petersburg's former CFO, Pamela Modisett, resigned at the same time as Mr. McLain. Mr. McLain became the hospital's CEO in July 2017 after replacing longtime chief Kathryn Gillette.

Ms. Hayes will take over the CEO position July 15. Prior to joining Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, she was CEO of Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson, Fla. She also served as CEO of Palms of Pasadena (Fla.) Hospital and Edward White Hospital in St. Petersburg. Prior to that, she was COO and interim CEO at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Va.

Bayfront Health St. Petersburg named Charlie Tyson CFO in April. He joined the hospital from Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.

Bayfront Health St. Petersburg is part of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems. CHS purchased the Bayfront Health system in 2013.
