Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System announced Dennis Phillips, executive vice president of the system's Metro Group, is departing, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Mr. Phillips is the third Carolinas executive to depart since December 2016. He joins Executive Vice President Paul Franz, who retired in December, and Chief Administrative Officer John Knox, who left in January 2017. Mr. Phillips will leave his post at the end of February.

Mr. Phillips has 42 years of experience as a hospital administrator. At Carolinas, he oversaw the Metro Group, which includes 14 hospitals. Prior to joining Carolinas in 2004, he served for 19 years as president and CEO of Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C. The report did not specify Mr. Phillips' next steps.

Additionally, the health system is still searching for a COO. CEO Gene Woods announced in September 2016 that the system is launching a national search for a COO, a position that has been vacant since Joe Piemont departed in April 2015.
