Bingham Memorial CEO resigns: 5 things to know

Kelly Gooch -

Louis Kraml, CEO of Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot, Idaho, has resigned from his post, according to an Idaho State Journal report.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Kraml.

1. He resigned Jan. 14 during a hospital board meeting, according to Bingham Memorial officials.

2. The circumstances that led to Mr. Kraml's resignation are unclear. However, media reports indicated Mr. Kraml and Bingham Memorial had sued the hospital board, claiming some board members were meeting and making decisions without consent from the rest of the board, according to the Idaho State Journal. According to Bingham Memorial officials, the lawsuit was filed but never served, and the hospital would have requested dismissal of the suit.

3. Mr. Kraml spent more than 15 years as CEO of Bingham Memorial.

4. His tenure at the hospital was marked highs and lows. During his tenure, the once small rural hospital with limited services transformed into a thriving regional medical center, according to the Idaho State Journal.

But, the report notes, Mr. Kraml also was among four Bingham Memorial employees charged by Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden in a case that involved Bingham Memorial employees allegedly intercepting and taping phone calls made by a physician at the hospital. According to the report, most of the charges filed by the attorney general were eventually dropped, but Mr. Kraml was convicted of a misdemeanor stalking charge in the matter.

Additionally, the attorney general's office has investigated the hospital for allegedly misusing charitable assets, according to the Idaho State Journal. A settlement was reached in which the hospital promised to review and, if needed, revise its policies related to charitable assets, according to the report. Bingham Memorial also faced a $50,000 fine.

5. Bingham Memorial CFO Jeff Daniels has been named interim CEO and will take over for Mr. Kraml.
