Baptist Health South Florida COO Wayne Brackin steps down unexpectedly

Wayne Brackin, COO of Miami-based Baptist Health South Florida, left his post, according to a Miami Herald report.

A Baptist Health South Florida spokesperson told the Miami Herald that "[Mr.] Brackin had decided to leave the healthcare system" and "he was not taking interview requests." The reason for his departure was not revealed.

Mr. Brackin had worked Baptist Health South Florida since 1995, prior to which he was chief executive of Homestead (Fla.) Hospital. Homestead Hospital merged with Baptist Health South Florida in 1995.

While at Baptist Health South Florida, Mr. Brackin served in numerous leadership roles, including as CEO of South Miami Hospital. He assumed the system wide COO position in 2007.

As COO, Mr. Brackin played a key role in developing and opening the Miami Cancer Institute, according to an email to staff from Baptist Health South Florida CEO Brian Keeley, the Miami Herald reports.
