Baptist Health COO John Wilbanks to retire

John F. Wilbanks, executive vice president and COO of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Baptist Health, is retiring at the end of the year.

Mr. Wilbanks has worked at Baptist Health since 1986, when he joined as vice president of professional services. He has served as the organization's COO for the last 15 years.

Under his leadership as COO, the health system added several facilities, including Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville and several freestanding emergency centers. He also played a key role in facilitating the partnership between Baptist Health and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Mr. Wilbanks is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has served on the board of the Florida Hospital Association and is a past president of the Duval County unit of the American Cancer Society. He holds an MBA from the University of Georgia in Athens.

Matt Zuino, Baptist Health's president of physician integration, will succeed Mr. Wilbanks as COO in January.
