Baptist Health Care CFO Kerry Vermillion Found Dead

Kerry Vermillion, senior vice president and CFO of Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, Fla., was found dead after state officials retrieved his body from Santa Rosa Sound, according to a Pensacola News Journal report.

KerryVermillionIt was reported that Mr. Vermillion, 47, was on a boat with several people in Santa Rosa Sound last Friday. He dove into the water but never returned, according to the report. Mr. Vermillion's body was found Sunday. State officials could not determine an exact cause of death, although early reports have indicated it was a drowning with no foul play.

Baptist President and CEO Mark Faulkner emailed a statement to the News Journal, saying: "We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Kerry Vermillion...is the victim of a drowning accident that occurred on Friday evening. Kerry Vermillion's dedication to this organization and our community serves as a great example for what it means to be a remarkable person, as well as a great leader. He was a dear friend and respected colleague."

Mr. Vermillion joined the four-hospital Baptist system in 2008. He had also held financial leadership roles at Mountain States Health Alliance in Johnson City, Tenn., and Baptist Health System in Birmingham, Ala.
