After failed merger, Michigan health system appoints interim CEO, chief restructuring officer

Anuja Vaidya -

Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain, Mich., tapped Jeanne M. Goche to serve as interim CEO and Dennis H. Smith as chief restructuring officer, according to a UPmatters.com report.

Ms. Goche has had experience at several other rural healthcare facilities facing financial troubles. Dickinson County Healthcare System motioned to begin the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing process in September, around one week after a sale deal with Marquette, Mich.-based UP Health System fell through. However, the health system did not end up needing to file for bankruptcy.

Ms. Goche succeeds John Schon, who is resigning Dec. 31. However, Ms. Goche will assume the role effective immediately.

Mr. Smith previously led the Upper Peninsula Health Plan in Marquette. "Being a long-time UP resident and someone who knows the importance of DCHS to this community and to the region, I am honored to help assist with the restructuring and eventual stabilization of this health system," he said, according to the report. He will also begin his duties effective immediately.

Mr. Schon will act as a consultant and assist with the leadership transition.
