The following hospital and health system executive moves were reported by Becker's Hospital Review in September. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.
1. The Berwick (Pa.) Hospital Center named Diane Ljungquist CEO, effective Oct. 5.
2. Estes Park (Colo.) Medical Center selected Mark Gregson as interim CEO.
3. Dover, Del.-based Bayhealth appointed Richard Mohnk as the hospital's vice president and CIO.
4. Vikesh Tahiliani, MD, who has been with Hospital Corporation of America since 2009, was named the CMIO of HCA Midwest Health, based in Kansas City, Mo.
5. The Forks (Wash.) Community Hospital Board of Commissioners decided Sept. 28 to terminate current CEO David Selman.
6. David Castleberry, CEO of Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston, Ga., announced his resignation.
7. Charlotte Wray was appointed president of University Hospitals Elyria (Ohio) Medical Center.
8. Sally Strzelecki, CNO of Phoenixville (Pa.) Hospital, is retiring after 48 years of service to the hospital.
9. Tomislav Mihaljevic, MD, is taking over the role of CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
10. Brian Davidson, MD, vice president for medical affairs and CMO of St. Mary's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colo., will become the interim president of St. Mary's on Oct. 9.
11. The Brooklyn (N.Y.) Hospital Center appointed Gary G. Terrinoni president and CEO.
12. Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough, N.H., has named Peter Johnson CIO.
13. Cleveland-based MetroHealth System promoted numerous leaders. Mavis Bechtle, MSN, was promoted to chief hospital clinical officer while retaining her role as senior vice president and system CNO. In addition, Christopher Roker was promoted to senior vice president and chief hospital administrative officer. Aside from the promotions, MetroHealth also appointed Michael Stern senior vice president and chief of staff.
14. Garren Colvin, president and CEO of Edgewood, Ky.-based St. Elizabeth Healthcare, announced changes with his administrative team. Gary Blank was promoted to executive vice president and COO; Chris Carle will become the first president and CEO of St. Elizabeth Provider Network, the St. Elizabeth Physician Hospital Organization; Robert Prichard, MD, will become the chief clinical integration officer; Bruno Giacomuzzi will become COO of St. Elizabeth Florence (Ky.) and St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas (Ky.) as well as senior vice president for professional services.
15. Robert J. Longo, senior vice president of York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health and president of Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, Pa., will retire at the end of 2015.
16. Martin Koonsman, MD, was named president of Methodist Dallas Medical Center, effective Oct. 1.
17. Mike McBride, president and CEO of St. Mary's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colo., plans to leave the hospital for a new job with CHI St. Luke's Health in Houston.
18. Burlington-based University of Vermont Medical Center and the University of Vermont Medical Group appointed Rick Vincent vice president of finance and CFO.
19. Stanford (Calif.) Children's Health named Kelly M. Johnson, PhD, RN, vice president for patient care services and CNO.
20. Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital promoted Keith Barber to CEO.
21. Bruce Tassin, CEO of Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, will leave his post at the end of October to become president of 468-bed Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky., part of Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives.
22. Stanford (Calif.) Health Care President and CEO Amir Dan Rubin will leave his post at the end of 2015 to join UnitedHealth Group and its Optum organization as executive vice president.
23. Placentia (Calif.)-Linda Hospital, part of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, named Brittany Whitaker CFO and Nancy E. Lee, BSN, CNO.
24. Ana Lopez-Blazquez, CEO of Baptist Health Enterprises, was named executive vice president and chief strategy and transformation officer of Coral Gables-based Baptist Health South Florida.
25. Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spectrum Health picked Ron Lewis as the next president of Zeeland (Mich.) Community Hospital.
26. Carl Hanson, administrator at Rupert, Idaho-based Minidoka Memorial Hospital, will retire from the hospital this year.
27. Michael Stephens, CEO of Mercy Health-Cincinnati's West Hospital, stepped down to join Lewisville, Texas-based Adeptus Health.
28. Lafayette (La.) General Health announced the appointment of Karen O. Wyble as CEO of Breaux Bridge, La.-based St. Martin Hospital.
29. W. Trent Crable was appointed to serve as CEO of UP Health System – Marquette (Mich.), effective Oct. 19.
30. Arlington-based Texas Health Resources selected Lorrie Normand, DNP, as the next president of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne.
31. Nancy Shendell-Falik, RN, who for the past two years has served in the dual position as senior vice president and COO of Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health and CNO for Springfield-based Baystate Medical Center, was promoted to president of Baystate Medical Center and senior vice president for hospital operations for Baystate Health.
32. Fairfield, Calif.-based NorthBay Healthcare named Traci Duncan, DNP, vice president and CNO.
33. Michael Bartell was named CEO of Phenix City, Ala.-based Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, a joint venture between Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth and Columbus (Ga.) Regional Health, a joint venture between Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth and Columbus (Ga.) Regional Health.
34. Oregon Health & Science University in Portland and Salem (Ore.) Health announced additional members of the management team for OSHU Partners, the company created to oversee the entities' respective clinical services as an integrated health system. Cort R. Garrison was named CIO; Thomas Yackel was named chief clinical integration officer; Michael A. Hill was named chief strategy officer; and Pamela Vukovich was named interim CFO while a nationwide search is conducted.
35. Money Atwal, CFO of Honolulu-based Hawaii Health Systems Corp.'s East Hawaii region, will be taking an extended leave of absence.
36. UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco and Walnut Creek, Calif.-based John Muir Health named Chris Willrich CEO of Bay Health, a new development company that is jointly owned and operated by UCSF and John Muir as part of the affiliation between the two organizations.
37. Tom Thompson was named president of Regina Hospital in Hastings, Minn.
38. Claus von Zychlin, CEO of Columbus, Ohio-based Mount Carmel Health System, has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare type of blood cancer, and will take a three-month medical leave for treatment starting in October. In his absence, Roger Spoelman, CEO of the western Michigan region for the system's parent company, Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health, will serve as interim CEO.
39. Barlow Respiratory Hospital in Los Angeles hired Amit Mohan as CEO.
40. John Votto, DO, will retire Oct. 1, 2016, after 18 years as president and CEO of New Britain, Conn.-based Hospital for Special Care.
41. Paul Skowron was named permanent CEO of Clinton, Ill.-based Dr. John Warner Hospital.
42. Jeff Lingerfelt was named CEO of Geneseo, Ill.-based Hammond-Henry Hospital.
43. Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services hired Linda J. Grass as CEO of Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, Pa.
44. Boston-based Joslin Diabetes Center named Peter Amenta, MD, PhD, president and CEO. The move came about a week after John L. Brooks III stepped down as president, CEO and member of the board of trustees at Joslin.
45. Timothy J. Walsh, president and CEO of Oak Bluffs, Mass.-based Martha's Vineyard Hospital, will retire in April 2016.
46. The New York City Health and Hospitals Corp. named Balvindar S. Sareen, MD, CMO of HHC Lincoln Medical Center in the Bronx.
47. Arkansas State Rep. Joe Farrer (R-Austin) resigned in protest from his job as interim CEO of Jacksonville, Ark.-based North Metro Medical Center.
48. Victoria Alexander-Lane, CEO of Bishop, Calif.-based Northern Inyo Healthcare District, is no longer at her post.
49. Robert Shroder is retiring after 13 years as president and CEO of Mercy Health's Youngstown (Ohio) Market.
50. Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, Minn., and Elbow Lake, Minn.-based Prairie Ridge Hospital and Health Services announced the addition of Lawrence Blue as CEO of Prairie Ridge.
51. Two health system veterans will take the helms of several Bon Secours Richmond (Va.) Health System hospitals. Mark M. Gordon, CEO of St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, Va., was named CEO of three Bon Secours hospitals: Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Va., Richmond (Va.) Community Hospital and Rappahannock General Hospital in Kilmarnock, Va. Francine Barr, vice president and COO of St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, was promoted to CEO of St. Mary's Hospital.
52. Nashville, Tenn.-based Saint Thomas Health, part of St. Louis-based Ascension Health, announced two leadership promotions. Don King, who previously served as COO of Saint Thomas Midtown and Saint Thomas West hospitals, both in Nashville, Tenn., will now become president and CEO of the two hospitals. Bernie Sherry, who took over the role of president and CEO of Saint Thomas Midtown and Saint Thomas West hospitals in 2013, will now become COO of Saint Thomas Health.
53. Barton Health in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., selected its CMO, Clint Purvance, MD, as the health system's new president and CEO.
54. Michael Reney, senior vice president and CFO at Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital, is leaving his position to become CFO of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, also in Boston.
55. Pikeville (Ky.) Medical Center named Aaron Crum, MD, CMO.
56. Kevin E. Smith will serve as COO of High Point (N.C.) Regional Health, part of Chapel Hill-based UNC Health Care.
57. Stone County Hospital in Wiggins, Miss., named Joan Strayham, MSN, CEO.
58. Randy Sauls, CEO of Valdosta-based South Georgia Medical Center, resigned from his post. SGMC CFO Raymond Snead Jr., DSc, will serve as interim CEO.
59. Terry Carroll stepped down from his position as chief innovation officer at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
60. Matthew Bailey was named COO of IU Health Bloomington (Ind.), effective Oct. 5.
61. Scott Barber was hired as CEO of Houston County Community Hospital in Erin, Tenn. Ken Tillman was hired as CFO.
62. Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health named James "Jamie" Carter COO of the company's Eastern Group of facilities, effective Sept. 28.
63. Burlington, Mass.-based Lahey Hospital & Medical Center named Linda Moulton CEO of its executive and international health programs.
64. Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems named Thomas D. Miller CEO of its planned spin-off company called Quorum Health Corp. Michael J. Culotta will serve as CFO of Quorum Health Corp.
65. Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare named Gary Willis executive vice president and CFO.
66. David L. Bernd, CEO of Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare, will retire March 3, 2016, bringing to a close to a 43-year career with 21 years at the helm. Upon Mr. Bernd's retirement, Howard P. Kern, the current president and COO of Sentara, will take over as CEO.
67. Gino Patrizio, COO of Marysville, Calif.-based Rideout Health, will be promoted to CEO this fall.
68. Michael Robinson, who oversees three Bon Secours Richmond (Va.) Health System hospitals, is stepping down next month.
69. Gary Gray, DO, was appointed CEO of Salinas, Calif.-based Natividad Medical Center, effective Sept. 15.
70. Oswego (N.Y.) Health appointed Charles "Chuck" Gijanto president and CEO, effective Sept. 14.
71. Los Altos, Calif.-based Daughters of Charity Health System named John Ferrelli president and CEO of its Seton Medical Center in Daly City, Calif.
72. Phoenix-based Banner Health named Shelby Nelson CEO of its southern Wyoming operations.
73. Anthony Stahl was named CEO of San Marcos, Texas-based Central Texas Medical Center, effective Oct. 5.
74. Daniel F. Evans Jr., president and CEO of Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health, plans to retire. Mr. Evans will relinquish his role as president but will continue to serve as the statewide health system's CEO until May 1, 2016. Current IU Health executive vice president and COO Dennis M. Murphy will be promoted to president of the organization, effective immediately, and take over as CEO on May 1, 2016.
75. Kenneth Gibbs, chairman of the board of trustees at Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Maimonides Medical Center, will become president and CEO of the hospital.
76. Dean French, MD, CEO of Sierra Vista, Ariz.-based Canyon Vista Medical Center, is leaving his position to become CEO of Community Medical Center in Missoula, Mont.
77. Ikenna "Ike" Mmeje was named CEO of Doctors Hospital of Manteca (Calif.).
