Dr. Thomas Hansen: Continuing Pediatric Research at Seattle Children's Hospital

Thomas Hansen, MD, has been serving as CEO of Seattle Children's Hospital since 2006. He is also a professor of pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. Dr. Thomas Hansen

Dr. Hansen received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and did a postdoctoral fellowship in neonatal medicine at Baylor and another postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric pulmonary disease at the University of California, San Francisco.

"Before becoming a hospital CEO more than a decade ago, I spent about three-quarters of my time in the laboratory trying to find ways to save the lives of premature babies with lung disease," Dr. Hansen has said. He now spends one day a week at the Seattle Children's Research Institute developing ways to help infants with respiratory problems that accompany premature birth.

Dr. Hansen previously served as chairman and CEO of Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. During his time there, Nationwide become one of the nation's five largest free-standing children's hospitals.

While Dr. Hansen has been leading Seattle Children's, the hospital has been placed among the nation's best children's hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.

Dr. Hansen is a member of the Seattle Chamber Community Development roundtable.
