CFO Ken Fisher: Crunching Hospital Finances for More Than 40 Years

Staff -
Ken Fisher knows what he's doing. Just ask his 40-plus years of healthcare finance experience.

Ken Fisher is CFO of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.Mr. Fisher has served as CFO of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, based in Iowa City, as well as the associate vice president of finance for University of Iowa Health Care since June 2007. He oversees all the major financial operations within UI Hospitals and Clinics and UI Health Care.

Mr. Fisher recently helped UIHC attain an "AA" credit rating from Standard & Poor's Ratings Services on $190 million in revenue bonds — which are being used toward the system's freestanding children's hospital project — and the system has an "AA" long-term rating on all of its outstanding bonds issued during Mr. Fisher's tenure. Karl Propst, an S&P credit analyst, said in the rating report that the strong credit rating "reflects our view of the system's very strong financial profile and debt service coverage, combined with its excellent business position."

Prior to joining UIHC, Mr. Fisher was a director for Navigant Consulting working with hospital and health system clients. He has also held executive financial positions at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit, Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee in Knoxville and three Charlotte, N.C.-based organizations: Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte Memorial Hospital and Carolinas HealthCare System.
