CEO Robert Chrencik: Embracing Solar Energy at University of Maryland Medical System

Staff -

Robert Chrencik, MBA, CPA, has served as president and CEO of the University of Maryland Medical System since 2008. Before taking the reins at the Baltimore-based system, he was the system's CFO.

As part of his duties as CEO of UMMS, Mr. Chrencik is an ex-officio member of the system's board of directors and serves on the board of each of UMMS' hospitals.

Under Mr. Chrencik's guidance, UMMS recently completed a grid-connected solar generation project with Constellation and Bithenergy. "The generation of solar energy, coupled with renewable energy credits, not only makes good business sense but exemplifies our commitment to innovation," said Mr. Chrencik in a news release. "Making a positive difference in the communities that we serve goes beyond delivering excellent healthcare; we must also be good stewards of our environment and resources."

Mr. Chrencik keeps busy outside of the time spent leading UMMS. He has served as a member of the executive committee of the Maryland Hospital Association and as chairman MHA's operations committee. Further, he has been on the board of the Greater Baltimore Committee and the Center Club and is a past president of the Maryland Chapter of the Health Care Financial Management Association.

Mr. Chrencik earned his MBA from Loyola University in Baltimore. He is a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
