CEO Mary Prybylo: Changing Things Up at St. Joseph Healthcare

Staff -
Mary Prybylo has served as president and CEO of St. Joseph Healthcare and St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, Maine, since September 2011.

Prior to joining St. Joseph, Ms. Prybylo was the COO of Waterbury (Conn.) Hospital Health Center. She has also served in executive roles for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut.

During her time leading St. Joseph Hospital, Ms. Prybylo has made sure the facility is taking steps to move forward and evolve with the changing healthcare landscape. "The current healthcare climate is one of rejuvenation," Ms. Prybylo said in a letter to the community. "We are embracing this climate."

For example, St. Joseph is growing its physician base and consolidating the hospital's physician practices into one location. The hospital's emergency department and ambulatory surgery areas are being renovated as well.

Throughout all this change, St. Joseph has seen success under Ms. Prybylo. The hospital was named one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation by Thomson Reuters in 2012, among other recognitions.

In recognition of her outstanding leadership in the healthcare field, Ms. Prybylo was named to Becker's Hospital Review's 2012 list of 120 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.
