CEO Margaret Sabin: Working and Working Out at Penrose-St. Francis Health Services

Staff -
Margaret Sabin has served as president and CEO of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services in Colorado Springs, Colo., since November 2008. She also serves as South State Hospital Group president for Englewood, Colo.-based Centura Health.

Prior to joining Penrose-St. Francis, Ms. Sabin served as CEO of Sutter Health Partners, the lifestyle management and wellness coaching program within Sutter Health, and vice president of new product development for Sutter Health in Sacramento, Calif.

Since taking the helm at Penrose-St. Francis, Ms. Sabin has striven to keep not only her patients healthy, but her staff and physicians healthy, too. One unique way she does this is by leading a "boot camp" workout class on Saturday mornings. "I've embraced that to try to be a role model for our associates who juggle very busy lives…and show that taking that little bit of time, you know, it helps us juggle a little better," Ms. Sabin said in a video recently released by Centura Health. "It's not a frill; it's a necessity." She has been certified as a fitness instructor by the American Council on Exercise.

Ms. Sabin has extended her reach beyond the workout room and the hospital and received local and national accolades. In 2009, she was named a "woman of influence" by the Colorado Springs Business Journal. In 2012, Becker's Hospital Review named her to its list of 120 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.
