Alyson Pitman Giles: ACHE Gold Medal Award Caps Hospital CEO Career

For Alyson Pitman Giles, the Gold Medal Award encapsulates her hospital career that has spanned more than 30 years.

Alyson Pitman GilesAt the American College of Healthcare Executives 2012 Congress on Healthcare Leadership March 19, Ms. Giles received the ACHE Gold Medal Award, the highest honor awarded to fellows of the ACHE who "best exemplify leadership at the organizational, local, state/provincial and national levels."

Ms. Giles is the immediate past president and CEO of CMC Healthcare System and its 330-bed Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, N.H. She still serves as a consultant for the health system. Previously, Ms. Giles was the CEO of Lake Shore Hospital in Manchester, N.H., and CEO of New London (N.H.) Hospital.

Under Ms. Giles' tenure, CMS Healthcare System developed a partnership with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health in Lebanon, N.H., that allows providers in the region to partner with each other to improve population health. She also oversaw the New England Heart Institute, part of CMC, which has quadrupled in size since it first opened.

Upon accepting the award, Ms. Giles said she was humbled by the designation. She has received several other ACHE awards, including the Exemplary Service Award, Distinguished Service Award and Regent's Award.
