ZeOmega, a Plano, Texas-based provider of population health management technology, released a new artificial intelligence-enabled solution to identify and manage opioid abuse populations.
Jiva Opioid AI, which integrates with the existing Jiva Care Management platform, uses machine learning to predict and identify cases of opioid abuse, then steer those individuals toward appropriate care. With each new piece of data input and analyzed, the algorithm continues to "learn" and hone its predictive skills.
In contrast to other programs that use prescription history to detect opioid abuse, ZeOmega's algorithm analyzes non-claims data such as social determinants of health. Jiva Opioid AI can thus predict abuse in patients without any opioid prescriptions, a crucial ability since a ZeOmega-backed study found that more than half of opioid overdoses occurred in patients who had not been prescribed the drugs for a year prior.
