Although women in the cybersecurity industry hold more advanced degrees than their male counterparts, a gender gap persists, according to a Frost & Sullivan report.
The report, titled The 2017 Global Information Security Workforce Study: Women in Cybersecurity, details survey responses from 19,641 information security professionals in 170 countries. The Center for Cyber Safety and Education and (ISC)2 conducted the survey in late 2016.
Here are four survey insights.
1. Women make up only 11 percent of the cybersecurity profession, and 51 percent of women in the industry report experiencing various forms of workplace discrimination.
2. A total of 51 percent of women in the cybersecurity industry hold graduate-level degrees, compared to 45 percent of men.
3. However, men are four times more likely to hold a C-suite or executive position and nine times more likely to hold managerial positions.
4. At every job level, men earn more than women. The average woman's salary is $4,540 less than the average man's salary at the director level, and $5,000 less in non-managerial roles.
