Wheaton Franciscan to implement $54M Epic EHR

Emily Rappleye -

Glendale, Wis.-based Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare announced it will implement a $54 million EHR project with Epic Systems to integrate records across its hospitals, according to the Milwaukee Business Journal.

The project will integrate clinical records, registration, scheduling, admissions, discharges, transfers and billing, according to the report.

Wheaton Franciscan's medical group and physician offices have been using an Epic EHR since September 2012, but hospital providers have only been able to view, not edit, the EHR. The project will establish one central EHR for all Wheaton Franciscan facilities.

Racine, Wis.-based All Saints Hospital will be the first to go live in January 2016, and all Milwaukee area hospitals will follow in May 2016. Senior Vice President and CIO Greg Smith told the Milwaukee Business Journal he expects a return on investment after four years.

One-hundred employees were hired to install the EHR, according to the report.
