Walgreens app now offers virtual consultations

Staff -

Through a new partnership with telehealth provider MDLIVE, Walgreens is now offering telehealth consultations for consumers through the drugstore's app.

Walgreens app users can consult with a U.S. board-certified physician at any hour of the day, seven days a week.

The offering is currently only available to users in California and Michigan, but there are plans to extend the services to more states and markets over time.

"For the first time, a drugstore's website and mobile app users can share the convenience of accessing a board-certified doctor who can also e-prescribe medication when appropriate, via a secure, online video platform," said Randy Parker, CEO of MDLIVE.

Walgreens currently offers a Pharmacy Chat feature, which allows users to live chat with pharmacists.

"Offering mobile and virtual access to board-certified doctors is a natural extension of the robust range of health services that Walgreens already offers," said Harry Leider, MD, CMO of Walgreens.
