The United States Department of Agriculture has allocated more than $6 million across six states to fund telehealth and other healthcare projects in rural areas, according to a USDA news release.

Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi and Louisiana received the grants under the Rural Development's Delta Health Care Services Grant Program. The grants, designed to address unmet health needs in the Delta region, will be used to serve communities with no more than 50,000 inhabitants.

Projects include a mobile health van program, education and training on respiratory therapy, distance learning equipment and telehealth centers and other telemedicine initiatives.
