UMass Memorial to switch to Epic EHR

Staff -

UMass Memorial Health Care, based in Worcester, Mass., has announced plans to switch to Epic's EHR platform, according to a Boston Business Journal report.

Eric Dickson, MD, president and CEO of UMass Memorial Healthcare, announced the transition to employees Tuesday, according to the report.

In his announcement, Dr. Dickson said this decision was "one of the most important contracts I have signed since becoming CEO," according to the report.

He further elaborated on why UMass decided to move forth with Epic. "Why Epic? It basically came down to one thing: hundreds of our caregivers tested the options available to us and they resoundingly selected Epic as the best system," he wrote, according to the report.

UMass Memorial Health Care currently uses Soarian, the flagship EHR of Siemens, which Cerner officially acquired in February.

The health system did not disclose the cost of the investment.
