UCLA Health selects Microsoft Azure to improve health data organization, precision medicine support

Jackie Drees -

UCLA Health will implement Microsoft Azure to increase its clinical and research data synthesis as well as its precision medicine efforts.

Microsoft's cloud platform Azure will provide UCLA Health with artificial intelligence-powered computing tools, which can more quickly process data and recognize important information patterns without the need for human intervention.

"Our data capabilities with Microsoft Azure will bring more medical discoveries and effective therapies to patients faster," said Michael Pfeffer, MD, assistant vice chancellor and chief information officer for UCLA Health Sciences, according to a news release. "The integration of information from structured data, like lab results and medication information, with unstructured data, like documentation, genomics and medical images, creates an incredibly powerful big-data learning platform for discovery."

The cloud platform will also support collaboration between UCLA Health and researchers from various other institutions and fields, because it can join data sets and software from different formats.
