Uber Health, the ridesharing service's HIPAA-compliant offshoot, has partnered with Birmingham, Ala.-based health coaching platform Pack Health to provide free transportation to and from medical appointments for patients with chronic conditions.
Pack Health's platform provides chronic care management and monitoring. Through the Uber Health partnership, Pack Health staff will be able to request and coordinate rides for patients; platform users will be notified of the scheduling via text message, and thus will not need the Uber app or even a smartphone to use the service.
The collaboration seeks to close care gaps for patients with chronic conditions that lack access to reliable transportation or are unable to drive themselves to appointments, according to Mazi Rasulnia, PhD, president and CEO of Pack Health. Over time, the company will track usage and survey users to measure the value of the free service.
