U.S. HealthWorks, an urgent care and occupational medicine clinics operator, rolled out a telemedicine service for workers exposed to bloodborne pathogens, the company announced Nov. 6.
The 24/7 service is available through U.S. HealthWorks CareConnectNOW, an app built on technology from telemedicine provider American Well. Potentially infected workers will be able to connect with a U.S. HealthWorks physician to review medical history and immunity status and to receive recommendations for follow-up care.
A physician may suggest lab work or write an electronic prescription, such as for post exposure prophylaxis.
The service is targeted toward individuals who might be exposed to bloodborne pathogens during work, such as emergency medical technicians, paramedics, police officers, firefighters or hospital personnel.
U.S. HealthWorks has launched the service in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Maine, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. The company plans to roll out the service to additional states through early 2018.
