Tufts Health Plan apologizes for early morning automated phone calls

A reminder for seniors to receive their flu shots went awry when Tufts Health Plan mixed up the times for the automated phone calls to be delivered, according to The Patriot Ledger.

The Watertown, Mass.-based health plan accidentally sent the automated calls between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., instead of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Approximately 10,000 seniors received the early morning calls, according to the report.

The phone calls were meant for individuals 65 years of age and older who are enrolled in the Tufts Medicare Preferred HMO option, which covers flu shots, according to the report.

"The intent is good, you know, to remind folks to get their flu shots this time of year. It was just a human error this time," said Sonya Hagopian, spokeswoman for Tufts Health Plan, in the report.
