President Donald Trump has a new iPhone, according to White House Social Media Director Dan Scavino.
Mr. Scavino confirmed the news on March 28 via Twitter, saying President Trump "has been using his new iPhone for the past couple of weeks here on Twitter."
Here are four things to know, according to CNNMoney.
1. President Trump had reportedly been using an unsecured Android phone for Twitter, raising concerns — particularly among Democratic senators — that cybercriminals would be able to hack into the device to enable audio and video recordings, among other surveillance activities.
2. After his inauguration, reports came out saying President Trump traded his Android for an encrypted device — which many hypothesized was a Samsung phone — that had been approved by the Secret Service. However, @realDonaldTrump tweets continued to appear from an Android device.
3. On March 29, CNNMoney reported @realDonaldTrump tweets were coming from iPhone and Android devices. Although Mr. Scavino said President Trump has been using his iPhone for the past few weeks, a tweet from an Android appeared as recently as March 25.
4. While it's more difficult to hack iPhones than Androids, it's not impossible, according to CNNMoney. The White House declined to tell CNNMoney whether the devices President Trump uses are secure. "We don't discuss the security measures that are or have taken place," Press Secretary Sean Spicer told CNNMoney by email on March 29.
