Trump's VA reform plan includes telemedicine, technology enhancements

Staff -

Donald Trump has released his proposed plan to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs should he become president, and the presumptive Republican nominee makes a nod to telemedicine and a need to upgrade healthcare technology.

As part of his 10-point plan to "make the VA great again," Mr. Trump says the VA must be modernized to serve the 21st century needs of service members. He says he will accelerate and expand investments in state-of-the-art technology to quickly and effectively deliver care. "All veterans should be able to conveniently schedule appointments, communicate with their doctors, and view accurate wait times with the push of a button," according to his proposed plan.

Additionally, Mr. Trump acknowledges how telehealth is an example of an innovative technology to boost access to care. "Caregivers should be able to easily streamline treatment plans across departments and utilize telehealth tools to better serve their patients," according to his plan.

Mr. Trump's VA reform plan generally seeks to overhaul the agency.

"The current state of the Department of Veterans Affairs is absolutely unacceptable," according to his plan.
