Top 8 Areas Where Mobile Technology is Used to Improve Patient Care

Healthcare providers are most likely to leverage technology to improve pharmacy management, according to HIMSS' Mobile Technology Survey.

Survey respondents were asked to rate, on a scale of one to seven, the extent to which their organization leveraged mobile technology to improve a specific area of patient care. The top eight areas include:

  • Pharmacy management (average score of 3.73)
  • Preventative support care (3.48)
  • Care continuum (3.48)
  • Telehealth interventions (3.42)
  • Closing the gap in health disparities (3.40)
  • Resource utilization (3.19)
  • Facilitating discharge management (3.04)
  • Pharmaceutical research validation (2.63)

Survey results were based on responses from 170 health IT executives from a variety of healthcare organizations. About two-thirds of respondents work for hospitals or integrated delivery systems while 14 percent work for ambulatory facilities or physician practices.
