The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has received a HIMSS Davies Enterprise Award for the second time, making the Columbus-based hospital the first to win the award twice.

OSUWMC received its first Davies Award in 2001. Its latest award recognizes the hospital's use of data to monitor the use of antimicrobial medication. Using data analyses, clinicians significantly reduced the dispension of IV ciprofloxacin, and in turn reported a reduction of Clostridium difficile infection rates. Since the program was launched in 2013, OSUWMC has achieved approximately $7.7 million in savings.

Additionally, the hospital implemented a facility charge calculator in its EHR to improve the accuracy of code levels of service in the emergency department based on chart documentation. A third party estimate suggested the hospital was missing $15 in charges per ED visit, and since implement the facility charge calculator, OSUWMC has achieved approximately $50 million gross revenue per year.
