'Thank you, Apple,' patient says after Apple Watch detected irregular heart rhythm

Mackenzie Garrity -

An Apple Watch user took to Reddit to share his story about how the wearable alerted him of an irregular heart rhythm, which he says ultimately saved his life, according to iDrop News.

In a Reddit post titled "My Apple Watch just saved my life," the patient shared his experience. He said he was simply lying in bed when the Apple Watch alerted him to a "stupid fast" irregular heart rhythm.

My "body went into shock; [I] got rushed to the hospital in a stretcher and got taken into trauma," the user wrote, according to iDrop News.

The Apple Watch user was suffering from tachycardia. Physicians ran electrocardiograph tests and determined the patient had a supraventricular tachycardia. In the post, the patient said he was discharged from the hospital, but returned for future testing and monitoring.

"Thank you, Apple, for making an amazing accessory and tool that helps people stay not dead," the post concluded.

This is not the first-time patients have shared their stories on how Apple Watches have saved their lives. One wearable user told USA Today she received a notification that read, "Seek medical attention," from her Apple Watch Series 2 in April 2018. Although the Florida teenager said she didn't feel any symptoms, her mother took her to a nearby urgent care facility, where she was subsequently diagnosed with kidney failure.
