Texas hospitals link NICUs through telemedicine

Neonatologists at Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett, Texas, and Dallas-based Children’s Health System of Texas are now able to collaborate on diagnosis and care through Children’s Health’s TeleNICU program, according to a Rowlett Lakeshore Times report.

Patients in LPMC’s NICU units can be connected to specialists at Children’s Health through videoconferencing equipment, secure data transfer and a specialized stethoscope and camera located on a mobile equipment cart.

“We are excited to partner with Children’s Health to bring the TeleNICU program to our patients at Lake Pointe,” said Brett Lee, CEO of LPMC and the Dallas market for Tenet Health. “Having a child in the NICU is a stressful time for any new parent, and being able to keep infants and their families close to their community, when possible, removes an added stress from the both the patient and parents.”
