Telehealth, EHR optimization & more: See the breakdown of most-important trends in healthcare

Definitive Healthcare released its 2019 Annual Healthcare Trends Survey, which asked healthcare leaders across biotech, financial services, staffing, life sciences, information technology and consulting sectors to determine the most-important trends in the industry.

Most leaders (25.2 percent) indicated industry consolidation is the most important trend. In 2018, there were 803 mergers and acquisitions and 585 affiliation and partnership announcements. This is only expected to increase in 2019, Definitive Healthcare reports.

Around 14.4 percent of those surveyed said consumerism is the most important trend. Telehealth followed, taking 13.8 percent of the votes. A 2017 study by Definitive Healthcare found more than 70 percent of consumers preferred video rather than in-person visits to primary care providers.

Below is the remaining breakdown of responses:

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning: 11.2 percent
  • Staffing shortages: 11.1 percent
  • Cybersecurity: 9.5 percent
  • EHR optimization and ancillary technologies: 9.5 percent
  • Wearables: 5.3 percent
