Tech salaries are on the rise: 7 things to know

Despite the fear of a recession and concerns regarding inflation, the tech job market remains strong, with salaries on the rise and tech unemployment rates at near record lows, according to a recent report from tech recruitment agency Motion Recruitment. 

Seven tech salary trends to know, according to the report:

  1. Tech salaries have increased by 6.7 percent in the first half of 2022.

  2. Some tech occupations have seen up to a 30 percent increase in salary year over year, while others have seen consistent growth of 2 percent to 6 percent increases in 2022.

  3. Tech candidates who received remote offers earned 5 percent to 10 percent more than the average salary of those who work in an office.

  4. Austin, Texas, Raleigh, N.C., and Denver are now considered some of the top cities for tech workers.

  5. During the first half of 2022, tech employers hired 106,000 workers, a 69 percent increase year over year.

  6. There have been 3.1 million job postings for tech positions, a 49 percent increase from 2021. But many of these roles are unfilled due to a lack of qualified workers.

  7. Regarding technology needs in the workplace, 97 percent of IT leaders said although their teams are working more closely with HR leaders, it takes longer than expected for digital transformation due to staff shortages.
