Tech glitch in Navicent hospital's automated reporting system skews COVID-19 data

An error caused by the automated case-reporting technology used by a Navicent Health hospital in Georgia resulted in inaccurate COVID-19 reporting, according to a report from WGXA, an ABC affiliate.

The Northern Central Health District reported a spike in COVID-19 cases on Aug. 24, according to a Facebook post. The Georgia Department of Public Health received about 21,000 electronic lab reports from the Medical Center, Navicent Health, including tests that were collected in June.

"The data dump has caused some of the case numbers in our counties to be reported inaccurately," according to a North Central Health District statement. "While a large amount of records appear to be duplicates that had been previously reported and can be removed, there are still several new cases."

The Georgia health department and North Central Health District are working with Navicent to resolve the issue.
