Survey Shows Providers' Confidence in Achieving Meaningful Use, Despite Complicated Process

Staff -
Healthcare providers aiming for incentive payments by meeting meaningful use requirements know the process is a complicated one; yet 83 percent of respondents to an InformationWeek survey said they are evaluating, implementing or have already deployed electronic health records that they are sure will meet all deadlines and requirements for meaningful use.

In a nutshell, eligible physicians must be able to fulfill 20 meaningful use requirements and eligible hospitals must be able to fulfill 19 requirements for 90 consecutive days before the start of 2012 — and these requirements are just for stage 1 of three total stages.

Survey results also showed approximately 25 percent of respondents say they don't expect any problems with EHR adoption. Additionally, 62 percent of respondents who already have or are planning to implement an EHR will spend more than 20 percent of their yearly IT spending on meaningful use-related projects this year, according to the report.
