A survey of more than 22,000 IT professionals and 900 IT director- to CIO-level executives by Boca Raton, Fla.-based IT search and staffing firm PROTECH found that 73 percent of IT leaders say the economy is improving. Approximately 42 percent of IT leaders report that their budget is adequate for their needs, and IT budgets are up 10 percent from last year.
However, the employment market is in flux. Although 81 percent of IT leaders rank the industry as very strong in hiring activity, 88 percent of employees are willing to change jobs, citing better compensation and leadership quality as leading concerns when considering a job offer. Thus, 69 percent of IT leaders are concerned about losing IT talent to other jobs. The top reasons cited for being willing to change employers were salary, company culture and lack of career path.
Employees reported an average pay increase of 5 percent, down from the increase of 6 percent reported in 2013. However, more IT professionals are reporting satisfaction with their jobs.
PROTECH, a full-service firm specializing in IT consulting and careers, conducts the Tech Talent survey each year of participants in the southern Florida tri-county area.
