Survey: CIOs Getting More Respect in the C-suite

Staff -

The growing importance of technology means that IT leaders are commanding more respect from their colleagues, according to a recent survey from WiseGate.

More than 70 percent of the respondents said IT was taken either very or somewhat seriously within their organization. None of the hundreds of respondents said their departments were not taken seriously at all.

However, the degree of respect given to IT departments varied by organization size. Of respondents from organizations with more than 500 total employees, 44 percent said IT was taken very seriously, compared with 33 percent at organizations with less than 500 employees.

The survey also suggested IT personnel are ready to be more engaged with the rest of the organization. When asked to select the skills that would most help advance their careers, the top three responses were being business savvy, influencing others and building relationships.
