Survey: 71% of CIOs suspect mobile technology will revolutionize business; only 59% of other executives agree

Top executives have different expectations when it comes to technological advances, according to an IBM Institute for Business Value report.

The report includes input from 5,247 executives, including CEOs, CMOs, CHROs, CFOs, COOs and CIOs. When asked what technologies they expect will have the most significant effect on their organizations over the next three to five years, responses from the 1,805 CIOs differed from their other C-suite executive counterparts.

Here are the report's findings, ranked by CIO response:

1. Mobile solutions: selected by 71 percent of CIOs, 59 percent of CXOs

2. Cloud computing: selected by 66 percent of CIOs, 62 percent of CXOs

3. Internet of Things: selected by 61 percent of CIOs, 56 percent of CXOs

4. Cognitive computing: selected by 40 percent of CIOs, 36 percent of CXOs

5. Advanced manufacturing technologies: selected by 21 percent of CIOs, 30 percent of CXOs

6. New energy sources and solutions: selected by 18 percent of CIOs, 24 percent of CXOs

7. Bioengineering: selected by 8 percent of CIOs, 13 percent of CXOs

8. Man-machine hybrids: selected by 5 percent of CIOs, 10 percent of CXOs
