The majority, 69 percent, of information security professionals report that the global cybersecurity skills shortage has impacted their organizations, according to a survey conducted by the Enterprise Strategy Group and the Information Systems Security Association.
Here are the top five ways respondents feel skills shortage has affected their work:
1. Increasing workload on existing staff: 54 percent
2. Hiring and training junior employees, rather than hiring professionals with more experience: 35 percent
3. Inability to learn or utilize security technologies to their full potential: 35 percent
4. Higher turnover amongst cybersecurity staff: 32 percent
5. Limited time for training, since focus is on daily responsibilities: 32 percent
Another frequently cited answer was high burnout amongst cybersecurity staff (25 percent).
