Subcontractor Exposes Patient Information From Fairfax County Community Health Care

The Fairfax County Community Health Care Network has announced a data breach at Bailey’s Health Center in Falls Church, Va., compromising the information of 1,499 patients.
The breach occurred when a subcontracted vendor left the patients’ information on an unsecured computer, where it was inappropriately accessed four times by three separate entities between Sept. 9 and Oct. 10, 2013.

Exposed information included the patients’ names, addresses, pharmacy identification numbers, medication information, payment information, payer information and some patients’ Social Security numbers.

Fairfax County has offered free credit monitoring services to those affected.
