The award is given to institutions to recognize effective use of healthcare IT to improve patient outcomes and achieving a return on investment, according to a news release.

St. Clair Hospital, an independent 328-bed acute care center, implemented a system in its emergency department to improve patient flow for patient registration, including a status board with analytics, electronic documentation and an electronic bed management system. In the first year after the implementation, waiting room times decreased from 49 minutes to 4 minutes, time before seeing a physician decreased from 76 to 28 minutes and patient satisfaction scores rose from the 14th percentile to the 99th, according to a news release.

“St. Clair Hospital’s team of clinicians and IT professionals has done a tremendous job of leveraging information technology to integrate efforts to improve quality and the financial bottom line at the same time,” said Jonathan French, director of quality and patient safety of HIMSS North America, in the news release. “The Davies Committee and HIMSS congratulate the St. Clair Hospital team for its focus on improving the health outcomes of their patient population through the effective use of health IT.”

Founded in 1994, the award is given to Stage 7 and Stage 6 hospitals and healthcare delivery organizations and presented at the HIMSS annual conference in Chicago.
