Spok convenes advisory councils with clinicians from Duke Health, Emory Healthcare

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Spok formed two clinical advisory councils to inform continued development of the company's Spok Care Connect platform, the healthcare communications company announced May 8.

The two councils — a physician advisory council and a nurse advisory council — will meet regularly to provide the company with insight and guidance on trends related to clinical communication, such as examining the role of workflow coordination with EHRs or how to use technology to increase patient engagement.

Advisory members include physicians and nurses from across the U.S., including representatives from Durham, N.C.-based Duke Health, Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare, Milwaukee-based Froedtert & The Medical College, Madison-based University of Wisconsin Health and Richmond-based Virginia Commonwealth University Health.

"The councils help us understand what is most valuable to the provider community," Andrew Mellin, MD, chief medical officer of Spok and chair of the company's physician advisory council, said in a May 8 statement. "We are already receiving great insights on topics including how to deliver world-class mobile application experiences and manage clinical alerts and results from the EHR."
