South Carolina REC Partakes in Pilot for Secure Exchange of Lab Information

Health Sciences South Carolina, a collaborative between universities and health systems, has partnered with Halfpenny Technologies to participate in a demonstration project for a lab hub that would facilitate lab data exchange between members of the Center for Information Technology Implementation Assistance in South Carolina, the state's regional extension center, according to a joint news release.

The lab hub will be designed to help providers meet lab-specific meaningful use certification requirements. According to the news release, lab data accounts for an estimated 80 percent of the information contained within an electronic medical record system.

Under the direction of CITIA-SC, Halfpenny Technologies will deploy its lab and EMR vendor-neutral lab hub, which will initially be accessible by a selected group of the REC's constituents, including LabCorp, Solstas and other reference laboratories. The hub will also be made available to healthcare providers across South Carolina.
