Rite Aid buys HealthSpot assets for $1M

Staff -

Pharmacy chain Rite Aid has purchased the assets of bankrupt telehealth company HealthSpot for $1.15 million, reports MedCity News.

HealthSpot developed telehealth kiosks that provided portable video consulting technology. The Dublin, Ohio-based company went out of business in early January, and in March put its assets up for sale to help repay creditors.

While the assets were priced at $5.2 million, Rite Aid's initial bid of $1.15 million was accepted, according to the report.

Rite Aid was a customer of HealthSpot, deploying telemedicine kiosks in 25 stores in Ohio. Walgreens is in the process of acquiring Rite Aid, and it is unclear what the plans for the assets are.

"We are happy to obtain the assets as we very much believe in telehealth as a healthcare solution," Rite Aid spokeswoman Ashley Flower told MedCity News.
