Report: 41% of Hospitals Can Meet Stage 1 of Meaningful Use

The percent of hospitals positioned to meet Stage 1 of meaningful use increased from 25 percent in February to 41 percent in September, according to a news release from the Healthcare Information & Management Systems Society.

HIMSS Analytics released a report, “Summary of Meaningful Use Readiness,” that showed approximately 53 percent of hospitals were identified as not likely to achieve Stage 1 because they met only nine or fewer core measures out of 14. In addition, 6 percent of hospitals reported that they do not have the capability to currently meet any core or menu measures.

The HIMSS Analytics report also indicated that the percent of hospitals that achieved Stage 6 on the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption ModelSM increased from 2.6 percent last year to 4 percent today. The percent of hospitals that achieved Stage 7 increased from 0.8 percent to 1.1 percent in the same time period.
